Forest School
outdoor play at
little pixies
We believe children should enjoy the outdoors every day. Whether it’s exploring our large garden, walking around the farm land and village, or visiting our forest school, fresh air and exercise are an integral part of life at Little Pixies.
Our spacious garden is designed to inspire play, imagination, and physical development. Children can explore mud kitchens, water play, climbing the hill, and digging in the sand. There’s also a vegetable patch to tend to, an outdoor learning space to explore, and plenty of opportunities for gross motor play. With so much variety, there’s always something new to discover.
We hold the view that there’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing, so waterproofs and wellies are always at the ready! Outdoor play is not just fun, it’s a vital part of wellbeing and learning, helping children to build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of nature.
Our forest school
Building on our passion for outdoor play, we’re proud to offer a dedicated Forest School site just a short walk from the nursery. Set in a natural woodland, it gives children the chance to explore, create, and learn in a truly magical setting.
Each week, our Sprites and Elves take part in Forest School sessions led by a qualified practitioner and supported by their familiar nursery staff. Following the six core Forest School principals, children are encouraged to:
• Learn through regular, hands-on experiences in nature
• Build confidence, independence, and resilience
• Take responsibility for their own learning through child-led play
• Develop holistically, stimulating all areas of growth
• Grow self-esteem and emotional wellbeing in a safe, supportive environment
• Nurture a lifelong respect for the natural world
